About Adam Buenz

My name is Adam Buenz. I have focused on SharePoint security and .NET development for about 11 years now. I run a small consulting firm, ARB Security Solutions that works with Microsoft Research, performing secure SharePoint deployments revolving around the security aspects like the ForeFront stack and DPM as sister server platforms, as well as custom development for stood SharePoint instances. Current work with Microsoft Research has been inclusive of geosynchronous harmony of data, focusing on latency and speed mutations and to rural ICT development. I have been in the Microsoft MVP program for 6 years now, speak at several conferences a year, and have contributed to the following publications:

Real World SharePoint 2010: Indispensable Experiences from 22 MVPs
Professional SharePoint 2007 Development (right-hand side is me)

I also run a small stained glass shop in Southwest Minneapolis (Currently In Route To A Farm In Eden Prairie) that focuses on reviving and repurposing both functional and non-functional stained glass art. I focus on abstract, high piece-count designs using mixed-use leadlight and Gemmail for small channel. My primary work has been weathered church pieces within the greater Midwest.

Most of my industry experience has been in aerospace and defense,  primarily for the United States Air Force, however have been involved in most branches of the government in several different deployments, including the United States Navy and the United States Marine Corps. Besides the federal sector, I have done secure deployments and development for sensitive and regulation sponsored agencies mostly in the financial and health care industry. I have major experience in:

  • Defense And Space
  • Aviation & Aerospace
  • Government Administration
  • Logistics and Supply Chain
  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Banking
  • Hospital & Health Care
  • Law Practice
  • Building Materials
  • Sports

The private sector regulations I am most familiar with are:

  • Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX Compliance)
  • Healthcare Services (HIPAA)
  • California Senate Bill No. 1386
  • NERC Cyber Security Standards
  • Financial Services (GLBA)
  • Visa Cardholder Information Security Program
  • MasterCard Site Data Protection Program
  • American Express Data Security Standard

Securing SharePoint is a fascinating field since it encompasses so many integrated technologies, such as ASP.NET, IIS, and SQL server. Having written general security and vulnerability assessment tools, I tend to play both the role of an external network assessment engineer as well as general software developer. I enjoy doing general C# / ASP.NET / SharePoint development, and I enjoy architecting SharePoint environments.

My other areas of technology interest are in rural ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) implementation, specifically how the Microsoft stack can solve problems within ICT development. As well, I enjoy the economics of CMS implementations, and how different decision criterion affect different environments.
